Daddy’s Chicken Shack is opening in Pasadena
Earlier this year, chef Pace Webb and her partner Chris Georgalas opened the Daddy’s Chicken Shack stall at Smorgasburg LA. Their upscale fried chicken sandwiches, as well as their vegan versions, quickly had people lining up at the weekly food market and bazaar in downtown Los Angeles.
Starting Nov. 1, Daddy’s Chicken Shack fans can sate their cravings any day of the week, as a permanent restaurant will open in Pasadena. It shares space with Webb’s catering company, Taste of Pace, which is noted for its monthly underground, invite-only supper club and for providing food for celebrity and charity events.
Like its Sunday sister, the spot has a small, but mighty menu featuring the Big Daddy, buttermilk fried chicken, napa slaw and sriracha mayonnaise on brioche, and its slider version, 3 Little Daddys, plus the Spicy Daddy, buttermilk fried chicken, sambal, napa slaw, cilantro and ginger mayonnaise on brioche. There is also popcorn chicken, salty paprika sweet potato fries and plain fries.
Daddy’s vegan offerings include a sandwich and nuggets, both centered around coconut curry milk-brined cauliflower. The sandwich’s sesame bun is graced with spicy vegan mayonnaise, napa slaw, cilantro and mint, while the nuggets come with the same mayo, cilantro and mint and a helping of salted lime peanuts.
Because of the restaurant’s operating hours, its donuts (popular at Smorgasburg LA) are not available; however, they may be added to the menu later if there is a demand.
Prices range from $4 for fries to $15 for the sliders trio.
